Um..this is a very long (overly long) tangent on the author’s childhood and formative years that I think are really only very mildly relevant to the book itself. Why is this happening? Because right now it reads like a white woman trying to explain why she cared about the mostly black victims of a corrupt reform school. Which the reason can just be: I cared because it was awful and they deserved better. The end.
