Different Hardy but elements of his better, later works. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still enjoyable to read, Hardy can certainly turn a phrase, but a bit the plot gets too convoluted due to out of nowhere coincidences that did not really work. A side note but it seems way ahead of its time for the later detective fiction genre.
