This is best written of the three books of Keel's that I've read so far, it reads as much like a very frightening horror novel as a nonfiction book. I just realised that Jon Downes' book about the Owlman of Cornwall, the British equivalent of the Mothman, is obviously written in imitation of this. Also had no idea that as many Men in Black encounters happened in connection with the Mothman until now!

turns out that the Point Pleasant occurrences are a very small part of what's covered in this book so far, there's as much page space spent on accounts of sightings of weird winged beings - be it giant birds, giant bats or winged humanoids both of the angel/demon/harpy variety and *human* steampunk mystery inventors in primitive ornithopters - I'm impressed by how much research Keel has done here already

this is already showing a sense of humour from Keel like starting with an anecdote about when he was mistaken for the Devil by West Virginia locals on account of his appearance and fashion sense, looking forwards to reading this
