I don't think I could ever read The Stand after COVID-19. I just got so viscerally mad thinking about how much we lost and how many selfish people walk among us, willing to let everyone die so their personal status quo stayed put and comfy, then they all moved on and forgot. Fuck. Onwards and upwards, yes, but the pessimism with which I view the social world after the pandemic was similarly infected and never cured.
