Tennis, polo, and a seemingly modern understanding of sports, powerful aristocrats sending their kids to boarding schools when everything suggests pre-revolutionary France - the trouble is in so many little details a modern understanding of everything is pushed, which really undermines all of the historical inspiration. Why even bother not having computers and social media at this point

given my basic historical knowledge I struggle to find parts of this world believable: why did the (presumably absolute) monarch they depose allow free press? Also how would Tamas know what a police state is, given that this concept is unlikely to have emerged in the kind of societies that are described here
