"...holds that spiritual solutions to scrupulosity are possible when they have powerful emotional aspects and are not limited to absorption of factual information. This may explain how Bunyan found some scripture passages reassuring but others irrelevant. Although Bunyan was a great admirer of...Luther, the famous passage from Romans that resolved Luther's concern about salvation was insufficient for Bunyan."

"From the outside we certainly see little logic to what finally brings relief. His (Bunyan's) whole life was consumed with searching the Bible and praying for the right answer. I found it curious that some texts, which appeared quite relevant to his doubts, provided only temporary relief; but other texts, which appear tangential at best, provided permanent relief."
Nouthetic counsel alone: not always effective.

I am reading this book to try to help two young adults I know. They have been shown to have Lyme spirochetes in their systems, which are likely the primary cause of the great mental distress these two young people are suffering.
This book is written with compassion and insight.
