From reading this the last year, I’ve learned, behind the obscure language, the ideas here are deceptively simple. Sartre’s bottom line is that “existence precedes essence”, meaning that a human being cannot be defined by any one action (or many actions), or any moment in time or supposed essential nature, but rather a human life is a continuous process of creation and recreation. Which I find inspiring.
