I clear my throat, but it doesn’t do any good. Now there’s no voice in
there at all.
“Try to look at me.”
I sneak a peek at you. Your eyes are amber. I look away.
“What is it you can’t do?”
“Talk.” The word, finally, comes out.
I notice then that you’ve been sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for me to finally speak.
“Is it because you’re scared?”
