So far, this book is pretty difficult to get through because Lewis is an absolute idiot. If an elk is possessing a woman somehow and looks completely like a woman, why would her teeth be ivory? One day he thinks his wife is possessed/literally the elk, and then the next, after deciding she's innocent, he goes to such drastic measures for another women he suspects? Am I supposed to sympathize with him?
