That’s my friend you’re hating on. And it’s not appreciated. She’s aloud to have an opinion just like you are.
@katniss I literally said she could have her opinion in my comment. Can you actually read it before you judge me
i mean you did call her disgusting and homophobic which is kinda extreme 😭 homophobia is an irrational fear, hatred, or dislike against people part of the lgbtqia+ community — and she simply js doesn’t agree with the choices of the people but still loves them, which i think is perfectly okay. from a religious stand-point, I totally agree with living everybody no matter the sin, but i can also see how her wording may come off as offensive to some. andd, as a christian, we make a lot of our choices on the basis of the word of God because that is yk the light on our life, so that’s probably why she’s pro-choice aswell. again, i mean absolutely NO negativity to you or anybody at ALL <3
@katnissthose reviews on the Bible break my heart into pieces.. God literally steered me away from s**cide and saved my life and people write THAT about his word 😔
@KatnissHonestly Goodreads was designed for people to talk about how they feel about a book. So naturally someone is going to discuss how they feel about a book, and somebody is going to either agree or disagree with their idea.
That's what this app was made for. Now I personally do not think we should comment on the person and their way of living, but rather stick to the review itself.
I only commented because I disagreed with her idea on how the author should of handled lgbtq+ and if it was needed in the book. I have no intentions on being disrespectful to May for we are all people with feelings that's just not right.
"Hate comments" aren't exactly hate sometimes, it's just other people viewing something a person read differently, and is just explaining so. Will what people say change how a person felt on the book they read? Maybe? Maybe not? But isn't that the whole point of Goodreads?
I hope you understand what I'm saying and don't take it as disrespectful :'D
@alexokay lowkey that kinda clears up what you’re tryna say but i think that some people are going OFFFF on the reviewer’s actual BELIEFS in the comments rather than what she said about the book which was making me kinda uncomfortable. the only books that I honestly wouldn’t tolerate any hateful reviews on are those connected to spirituality. even though I’m not apart of these religions, i would NOT put any hate on the Quran, Torah, Vedas, Upanishads etc etc — because those books are cornerstones of their spirituality and I wouldn’t wanna shame any of that. like as a christian, honestly the bible and just going deep into the Word actually saved me from attempts and such so seeing these hate reviews of people calling the Bible “fiction” make leadway into personal believes which was honestly not what gr was made for. but anyways I totally agree that it’s obviously okay to talk about people’s ideas on the way authors include things and such like that without being hateful towards the actual person.
@hannah I only called her what she called me. She said lgbtq is disgusting so technically I’m disgusting bc I’m literally gay. It’s not extreme it’s what she did herself. And yes I called her homophobic. Again not extreme. It’s a fact big you don’t support or agree with lgbtq then you are homophobic. It’s that simple. Religion should never be used as an excuse to hate because wasn’t it Jesus himself that said love thy neighbor? I don’t remember him saying only love your neighbor if they’re white, cishet, and Christina. You cannot have something that is such a fundamental part of someone’s life and still say you love them. You don’t
@alex EXACTLY!!! I don’t have a problem with her sharing her opinion. I’m sharing my own. It’s just that you need to be aware that if you say something hateful people are going to clap back and you need to be able to take it
@aarshia I started reading this series in fourth grade. By then I was already feeling different from my friends. Don’t people think it would help those queer kids if they saw that there’s nothing wrong with them
ʚ hannah ɞ wrote: "@alexokay lowkey that kinda clears up what you’re tryna say but i think that some people are going OFFFF on the reviewer’s actual BELIEFS in the comments rather than what she said about the book ..."
Yeah I do agree with your point there. Some of the comments I could back up but the people just going based of what she has in her bio I couldn't exactly be proud of
Because of course it sucks when people don't view things your way but at the end of the day not everyone is going to be religious and not everyone is going to be queer/a ally. That's what we gotta understand and move on from
That's why some of them, yes were a hate comment. Because they judged her reasoning based on her as a person and not based on what she took away from the book
And I also get your other point although it's also kinda iffy cause it's kinda controversial since the bible isn't a clear cut "yes it's nonfiction" "yes it's fiction" it actually kinda depends on the person/falls into the middle
But that's my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt
Hate comments are not respected in religious/spiritual books though, I agree with that completely. That is something that has drove people to keep on going and have something to live for and I'm happy for people that have found that light in their lives. So I would hate to see such rude comments on something so personal.
@hannah Goodreads is a place to review books. The bible is a book. People can say what they want it’s not that big of a deal (I am glad he steered you away from that. No matter what you deserve to live your life)
I’m not going to stand by that basically the same as agreeing. I will stand up for what’s right being loving who you love is right. Just because you don’t stand up for what you believe doesn’t mean I won’t. I have a backbone. I will clap back. I won’t shut up
And just bc someone doesn’t believe in what you do doesn’t mean they’re “taking away your rights” how are they doing that exactly🧐🧐
@Elliotti feel like homophobia is a hard topic to discuss from a completely neutral pov because there’s so many different aspects that go into that. I’m so so so sorry that she said that lgbtq is disgusting.. it is not disgusting, that is definitely NOT the word that I’d use. and honestly if I’m being completely rational, she is not being the best Christian by calling that community “disgusting”. I totally agree with you, religion is not an excuse to hate: which is why I’m confused on why she’s hating because Christianity definitely does NOT say to hate people.. quite the opposite 💀
about spiritual books, yes, people have free-will to write whatever review they would like on any book, spiritual or not. but idk it seems quite unkind/incosiderate to write a HATE review on a spiritual book just because you aren’t identified as wtver religion it ties along with 🙃 that goes for ALL religious books, not just the Bible.
@alextotally agree, all religious books are definitely not clean cut because different people have different beliefs. Some believe that the Bible is fiction because they don’t believe in that, which, no judgement here, i am not here to judge. i’m glad we could come to some sort of consensus though!!
yeah exactly just as she’s allowed to write the book however she wants, she should be allowed to write her review however she wants ✌️
@maki I said people like her. There are 38 out of 195 countries with legal lgbtq marriage. Where I live, my government is very conservative and left wing and trying to ban gay marriage and all gender affirming care so I think I’m more that allowed to say they’re taking my rights
@hannah. The actual hateful and disrespectful reviews on the bible are wrong. Anything hateful and disrespectful is wrong
I don't agree with the view she wrote but it is not right to say: "Omg and you support Trump, pro-life, and Israel 😂 how worse could you get"Bc in the end, everyone has their own opinions and I think you should respect that, Not oust them like that.
So respectfully, I'm unfriending you and I wish you a good day because I cannot afford to be friends with smn who isn't respectful about people's beliefs.
@nicole Pearson Yea I reread that and understood that it was definitely wrong to say. I already apologized for it in the comments of the review. I understand she has her own opinion and that’s fine. She can say what she wants but she can’t be surprised when people respond negatively

I know this is late and this may not change anything but Elliot has apologized for saying those things and recognized how unnecessary those remarks were
Maki wrote: "yeah exactly just as she’s allowed to write the book however she wants, she should be allowed to write her review however she wants ✌️"Respectfully. Key word respectfully. She shouldn't call a group of people disgusting though
Maki wrote: "yeah but how is someone taking gay rights by commenting on a book man?? like?"no, but they are promoting a very toxic mindset, especially on a social media app for everyone to see. what if everyone thought that way?
Maki wrote: "yeah but how is someone taking gay rights by commenting on a book man?? like?"I mean it may sound overegaterated but if one person says one thing others will soon follow. If we ignore people who says lgbtq+ Rep shouldn't be in books, soon people will listen to that view only and actually take action into removing queer representation, which could dramatically effect society and generations to come.
The point is to not look at certain things as small but rather the tipping point of a whole protest and riot and changing the world as we know it
I totally respect her opinion and I think calling her homophobic and disgusting is extreme and rude. She’s just voicing her opinion in a book review, so what’s so wrong about that? We all have freedom of speech and no one should be shamed for their beliefs opinions. I’m not saying I agree or disagree with her or you.
Katniss wrote: "Elliottㅅ✪ wrote: "@katniss it does affect me when people like her are trying to strip away my rights"NOT TRYING TO BE DISRESPECTFUL!!!!
But, it’s funny you say this, when in reality, lgbtq peopl..."
While I'm not undermining what christian's go through, I wouldn't go as far to say one has it more rough than the other. Every group of people is oppressed in one way or another in this cruel world, and that's something everyone has to work on and live with at the same time.
Going as far as to say LGBTQ people actually have it more easy than they think is basically denying any queer person the validation they need for their own personal experience.
I disagree with your statement there. It should be general knowledge that everyone is oppressed in one way or another in this world, therefore nobody has it rougher than the other.
