I’m finding the book interesting but it does invoke a few outdated ideas into the narrative so far: Lamarckism, recapitulation, and that the Catholic Church still thinks that evolution is untrue in the future. That’s the problem with old SF (this novel was published in the late 1950s): sometimes the future overtakes their assumptions. When that happens I have to imagine that I am reading an alternate reality.
