I hope the author explains what's happening a little better. It doesn't explain what the characters like about each other or why they're getting together, and I don't think the characters even understand it. It seems like they're both in a trance or under some spell, so I wonder if another witch placed a spell on them? That is a valid observation of the Owen's women falling in love though. It is often nonsensical.

Maria falling in love seems fast paced but I am here for it. It seems like a silly mistake for a young girl who had the severity of a child psychopath one second and then seems ready to throw away her values for a fling.

Alice Hoffman’s writing style remains as whimsical and as charming as her novel “Practical Magic”, and unlike her other works in the series has very seamlessly captured the pace and timing that went into her delivery for the first. Despite this being a historical fiction novel, perhaps the first many of her readers will try to read. I am hooked. Maria is a pioneering character, setting off alone in the world.
