There's way too much "By the grace of God" peppered throughout this narrative for me to appreciate any authenticity of what is being said--take a 100 pages out and the core narrative remains unchanged. I'm a little exasperated now. I want the book to end.

Okay, I understand my issue with this "book"; it's that it's not actually a book, but a series of independent essays separated by year but linked by biography; the level of repetition goes beyond form and technique, to the point of incessantly stating exactly what was mentioned before in the exact same format. Also the number of times I've encountered the word "piss" is intense.

The prose is ... fine; accessible, which is integral to the narrative given the circumstance and politics of this biography (who is telling it and where they come from, and who they want to reach). My current gripe is that there are too many pop cultural references--quite exhaustively so.
