I love how oppressive the language feels interspersed with the use of diminutive words! I’m curious to know how it translates, I might pick up an English copy someday and see the difference

This is related to a previous update but it’s relevant to my comment about diminutives. I really liked how in the description of Marmeladov, Dostoevsky uses the diminutive form to describe his eyes! Which painted a very human picture in my mind, a broken down man with warm or small or cute little eyes. That’s how I see it at least, I can see it being used to further push the suffocating atmosphere
