i’m stumbling on the fact that Green uses he/him pronouns for most of the book, switching only at the end when, in the book’s chronology, her child comes out as nonbinary. alicia elliott also wrote a memoir which includes her nonbinary child, but she uses gender-neutral pronouns from the beginning, which feels more respectful— your child isn’t two different people, they’re who they’ve always been
