Books 1 and 2 hold a lighter tone than Book 3, somewhat reminiscent of a weekend get together among friends engaging in friendly debate (although Socrates’ (in a narrative form being told by Plato) quarrel with Thrasymachus is much more heated than the other discussions). Book 3 holds a much more serious and structured tone wherein Socrates establishes his idea of true justice in a broader scope (the State).
