The most compelling thing I’ve read in a long time. An English professor recommended this book to me years ago. It contains: poetry, left-wing history, Bildungsroman (coming-of-age story), atmospheric undercurrent of sadomasochism, Spanish language. I started writing poetry again because of this book and looked up Bolaño’s poems. Funny guy.
