It starts with, hey that looks like trouble down there in the woods in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of the night.........should we check it out or just go back home? Story #1 - The Parable of the Stick. Hap and Leonard talking about what's wrong with schools today in teaching non-violence over self-defense. Which is a perfect start -- the frequent theme of this series of novels is their inability to walk away from situations and conflicts that everyone else on the planet would (easily avoid).
