a war that started out as a pursuit to return helen to menalaus became a war for men to defend their pride/egos, and achieve glory. in the end, it was always a game for the gods. the gods laid out the fates of the mortals and used them as game pieces for their resentment against other gods

first time reading the iliad and i enjoyed butler’s translation. his words about achilles and patroclus were beautiful
