Elvar released ulfrir after he swore a blood oath that he would protect tainted and non-tainted alike and punish the oath breakers the murderers the thieves and defend those who are wronged as well as never use his blood to gain power unjustly over another. Following this oath she freed skuld, her berserkir with the chiefs following her also freeing their tainted. Glornir reveals that all the bloodsworn are tainted

Lik rifas war host now leave their fires and move under the cover of night hoping to surprise Elvar and ulfrir. Brak brings silrid and brodir back to the camp after they have failed and lik rifa hold brodir hostage as if Elvar dies then he shall control ulfrir. Rotta now says if he wants to assassinate Elvar he must do it himself. Lik rifa and rotta also say they will eat the dangerous thing if ulfrir isn’t weak

Ulfrir says he understands elvars position in thralling him and that he would have done the same and he respects what it takes from her to rally and organize such a war host. Elvar says all of it is just to get bjarn back and that she doesn’t like leading and the responsibility that comes with it. Could ulfrirs understanding of Elvar lead to her releasing the tainted thralls

Ulfrir is more trusting of Elvar, revealing more about his wolf dales to Elvar about how the hall is truly open at the top apart from a seidr spell and that he suspects there are spies in her war host who work for rotta. He also shows her the ash trees that surround his hall filled with froa spirits and that the great tree his hall in built around is a seed of oskutred with its own spirit which he is awakening.

Ilska is reporting lik rifa of their logistics with them only having 3-4 days of provisions after the raids but being only 2 days away from the wolf dales. Lik rifa is still convinced that ulfrir is weak as he is not joining the raids while rotta plans to get estrid and skalk to assassinate Elvar to crumble the leadership. Bjarn also points out the hypocrisy of lik rifa and how he isn’t free at all

Elvar is going over her fortifications as she sends more warrior out to torch their supply wagons. Here she asks Iva vol uspa skuld and ulfrir to fortify the main gates with their seidr magic casting ulfrirs blood to reinforce the fortifications and even leaving a nasty surprise for lik rifa and rotta so they cannot simply break through as easy

Jarl elvars war host is celebrating after the successful ambush that made lik rifa very angry as many of her forces have been killed. Varg remarks that is vigrid is changing so drastically why can thralling not change as well and if they should be fighting for someone who would make thralls of them. Jarl logur of liga also joins with his drengrs but many tainted have now joined lik rifas side as well

In the ambush many were killed with Orka injuring drekr and lif injuring Gudvarr but neither of them dying as glornir had to drag Orka away as they retreated to the tunnels after lik rifa turned into her dragon form. Rotta also arrives reporting they were also ambushed as he discovered the tunnels that they attacked from

The bloodsworn and the rest of elvars war host ambush lik rifas forces through the multitude of tunnels that lead from the main hall of the wolf dales. Here they strike quick while warriors and vaesen are still waking from their slumber. In the melee Orka glimpses drekr who sees her as well and now they lock into combat
