On the front cover of the book are the following code names: Madame Andree (the Fighter), Luciene Carlier (the Smuggler), Helene (the Spy), and The White Mouse (the Target). These names illustrate people’s struggles to win the war.

In this novel, there are storylines set in the 1930s and the 1940s. In the 1930s, Nancy and her fellow journalist Frank investigate Hitler’s atrocities in Vienna and Berlin. It was a tragedy, especially since Nancy witnessed firsthand how Hitler’s supporters had been brainwashed. In the 1940s, Nancy joins the SOE alongside Hubert. They celebrate Mass together.
