I’m already seeing a lot of the patriarchal values within that era pop up. “No misfortune was too great to bear if their men were whole” I’m pretty sure the dust is supposed to represent misfortune mostly because we spent a whole chapter talking about the dust. I’m unsure HOW it represents it but i believe it may be revealed later on or perhaps I’m supposed to infer
