Page 227. You can find ways to both do Bride school and pursue other important goals if you have a community of support and have done your homework to understand your options… Be all parts of you that you want to be and allow them to inform your educational commitment.

Page 199. Please don’t be the person who stops inviting the new parent to social gatherings because they are visibly pregnant or just had a baby. Please keep inviting them. They will probably say no, but stopping the invitations add another layer of punishment and isolation that is not cool…they will probably decline, but please make an effort not to ghost them!

Page 175. We are called to do this [mentoring students of color] work; we want to do this work; we are moved by this work and feel a responsibility to it; also, this work can be all-consuming.

Page 160. I would rather hear about it [mistake] in my advisor’s office, knowing she is trying to help me become a better scholar, than from some dude who stands up in Q&A at a conference after I have presented with a smirk on his face because he has a sound gripe about my work.
