Almost a quarter into this literary fiction novel, which my mentor kindly allowed for my nonfiction semester reading. Already I can see why! Through fictional characters and events, Hagedorn paints a picture of life in Marcos-era Philippines. I am loving the multiple perspectives, hybrid elements, and almost lyrical storytelling so far. I can tell Hagedorn is a poet.
