It’s a tragic parallel: just as Behrani uses legal technicalities to justify keeping a house he knows was wrongfully taken, Kathy uses emotional technicalities to justify taking a man who belongs to someone else. Both characters are clinging to something that isn't theirs because they feel the world owes them a restitution.
