I want to say the story is picking up, but really, it's not. Its hypnotic spiral continues to deepen, and that momentum creates a feeling akin to movement, even if we're barely moving. An incredible achievement.

A bit meandering, which is to be expected, but still quite good. The book's greatest strength is in its small, odd moments, painted with great care by Bolaño's inimitable pen.
