this is the first one of Jesmyn Ward’s books that I haven’t been able to finish in a single sitting (solely because I started it too late) but I did read the first 145 pages in a single session.

The way she writes is addictive. The vivid imagery memorializing her brother, cousin, and other loved ones who have died is so poignant and evocative. Apart from Morrison, Ward is my favorite author in terms of style.
