I read this book ages ago, but I really liked it. She had a great way of telling intelligent spy stories.

Yes, she did. She wasn't actually the first woman to write espionage novels (Emma Orczy may have been the first, with her double-identity character), but MacInnes was certainly the first to throw glamour aside and write stuff grounded in reality.
