Haha, absolutely! 😅 Especially when it comes to Mildred. I never liked their whole dynamic, though to be fair, I couldn’t stand Mildred either.

hate the way he talks/thinks about women. he's also spoiled. too much self pity. kind of funny how he critiques his uncle but he's just as bad lol

Yes! Philip can read everyone except himself, which drove me crazy. And I get what you mean about the women too - sometimes it feels like the book is almost daring us to dislike them.🤯

No, not poor Philip!!! 😅 He gets better around the 3/4 mark! I promise haha

i usually enjoy books like this but if Philip lived now he'd probably be part of manosphere. or would be self proclaimed nice guy 😭

Yeah, you do start to feel a little sorry for Philip toward the end.😅 And I’d read that there’s quite a bit of Maugham himself in Philip too, almost as if he wrote parts of himself into the character. That made me look at him a little differently.

yeah, it says in the blurb that it's semibiographical. it's always hard to watch people who let others to walk all over them :/
