why is it that orphan’s apparently are ONLY to eat bread and porridge (usually burnt) and apparently 1 small cup of coffee??? if i was jane, i would have crashed out years ago 🙃

why is everyone in this book the WORST except for jane and the dead guy? (chapters 1 & 2) :
- we meet jane, our narrator. she’s an orphan (duh), she’s ‘surly’ (a literal child being ostracized), and her guardian is a bitch with 3 horrible overgrown snots she calls her children. jane is beaten by her obnoxious twit of a cousin and is promptly punished for defending herself. everyone sucks.
