“A woman of seven and twenty,” said Marianne, after pausing a moment, “can never hope to feel or inspire affection again, and if her home be uncomfortable, or her fortune small, I can suppose that she might bring herself to submit to the offices of a nurse for the sake of the provision and security of a wife. …In my eyes it would be no marriage at all, but that would be nothing.”

Honestly yeah

Honestly rude that Jane refuses to tell us exactly how long Edward walked around outside before getting the courage to come back in and propose, and how specifically that went down. It DOES need to be particularly told!!

No adaptation that I’ve seen so far has been brave enough to portray Edward sitting with the Dashwoods in silence (while Elinor is crying tears of joy behind the door) for several minutes and then leaving without a word to go on a short walk outside before finally coming back to propose to Elinor. 2026 Sense and Sensibility please don’t let me down
