I love that this book was recommended to me by my mom 45 years ago. Told of a true life story. My girls loved it as well. It’s written in words that were more true to the time period and aren’t used today but the kindness of these characters and grit, the heart and heartaches of the time still make this story so intriguing. It’s simple and yet it isn’t. It’s one of my most treasured books in my library.
