I read just now that Simmons had no editor, which I should have realized earlier.

“As you know” dialogue is prominent as well as flashbacks and historical minutiae that bog the narrative. Normally I welcome the context but it’s too much and too close together.

I want to finish this book though I’m finding getting through it is as arduous a task as hauling a heavy sled in the icy wastes.
