Maneesha One thing I like about this book besides it being fast paced and a small book, is the poetic way of writing, jumping from one scene to another scene so seamlessly, it makes coherent sense.

It’s dealing with someone who is completely lost, not just because of the loss of his parents, or alcohol addiction, just a total lack of understanding the purpose of life. I can now see what his obsession for higher power or God is.

Even with Gabe, as insensitive and ruthless(probably much needed) as he is, this is the third step which is likely the hardest, to flow his energy into something that can shape him.

Cyrus who has never known his mother’s love, insomniac, who loves reading, has a hard time with lack of identity, and a sense of belonging. I’m unsure, if he attained these qualities, he would simply feel better and gums his true calling, but it would help him feel less bad of a person, which he now consistently think is.

I wonder if his mom has depression, and this mood of his hereditary. And the alcohol seemed like, he picked it up from his dad.

It’s understandable why people are prone to alcohol or fruit addiction. Which is also very beautifully written. Why feel bad when we can feel good.

Reminds me of this thing that Jon Steward said in an interview with Trevor Noah, that alcohol or any substance use is like chemotherapy. While it kills the parts of your brain, emotions which you’d like suppressing. It also lowers the rest of emotions.
