When you’re new to money, it comes as quite shock to system, no matter how much your contract was for. Eventually you get used to it, but hard to hand over thousands of dollars for food and most expensive bottles of wine and liquor. I always wanted to use that money on someone I loved, and eventually started bringing my sister and her daughter out for fancy dinners. And I can still do that. With Isla in tow.

“Are you ready?” I ask as we walk through Central Park. I can see the Cleopatra’s Needle up ahead, and just past it, covered in snow, sits the glass pyramid structure attached to the back of the museum.

“You’re like the first or second best at your position in the entire league. People everywhere know exactly who you are.”

But she’d be surprised how many people don’t care about football, and the ones who do, don’t care about it past their team.

I took my Maybach to make sure that Isla is comfortable the entire way there. Plus, although the car sticks out like a sore thumb on our way through Pennsylvania, it fits right in in the city. We’ll be fine.

The other part of being a professional athlete is we don’t let distractions get the best of us. If Leo gets mad at me for my relationship with Isla, he’s not going to risk a game to show his annoyance. I’ll still get targets, I’ll still play the best I can. Our relationship isn’t going to hurt anything, and if it does, then that’s Leo’s issue, not mine.
