Wow what a revelation.
It's midnight now and time to close this wonderful book. When I do, I will soon hear the cast of little characters downing tools, getting into their normal clothes, having a cuppa, chatting and laughing. "See how shocked he was when the secret was revealed!!!" - "Wait until he reads what we have in store for him tomorrow" - "Night everyone". The book now falls silent.

Mark, I really loved this image of all the characters putting down their tools and stepping out of the book for the night! It made the whole thing feel like a little theatre falling silent simply because you closed the cover. I was completely enchanted by it!

Yes, I always get this feeling when reading a book I am loving (East of Eden was the same recently), they're all asleep at the moment - but that rowdy lot will have to wake up in a few hours when I pick the book up again for me pre-afternoon snooze read!!
