Putting this on hold. The author’s inclination to try and describe the hermit’s behavior is ironically reflective of his narrative decisions as a whole. Theres less of a story here than is let on and as it continues, I genuinely can’t feel confident in the authors ability to deliver an interesting experience by the end.

Crazy how you think instantly of Into the Wild, and this is the exact antithesis of it. Christopher McCandless left society to search for spiritual enlightenment and was eventually bested by Nature. Christopher Knight on the contrary left no mark on the world and searched for no spiritual meaning in his endeavors and ironically lived solely because of the food he stole.
