The title was mentioned in the twin’s mother’s dream! The one armed sweet man is the “god of small things”

So far I’m just going along with the chronology of the story and will not be not asking too many questions. Probably, it will sort itself out by the end. I did get the impression that the opening chapter’s descriptions of Rahel and Estha were in the future, whereas this large middle chunk of the book has been during their early childhood.
