My main criticism is that what I’m reading now, should have started happening 100 pages ago. Beginning was a bit slow and provided no insight into the plot. Now we’re finally getting that, so I guess better late than never. I would like more scenes of Emery and August. It’s hard to root for them or even feel bittersweet about them, when we hardly see them interact. We’re just told they were/are soulmates

Okay - now we’re getting a little more information. August lied about that night but what did he lie about? I still doubt he’s the murderer. And Lily wasn’t exactly a saint. She was interested in magic. Dark magic. And wanted revenge on the Salts for her family. I don’t know. We’ll see…

I do enjoy Young’s writing but man, can she say the same things over and over again just in different ways. I’m one hundred pages in and so far, still have not one iota why the town thinks August killed Lily. Or how the fire got started. Because we’re still going over the established bullet points. Let’s either move a little forward now or give me more character developing scenes and dialogue!

I do love the vibes of the setting so far. There could stand to be a little more detail because the ones we are getting are great. I can see the tea shop, the pub and even the chapel. Just need to know these characters a little better. We’re laying a good foundation right now.

Reminds me a little of the Wicker Man so far. But in a good way. Not a Nicholas Cage screaming “Not the Bees!” way. Idk how I feel about first person POV with 2 different characters but I’ll get over it
