He’s lost me on chapter nine. Clearly fashion and beauty are not the author’s areas of knowledge, and this chapter should have either been better-researched or omitted.

This is really a rather good book - though without doing more research I can’t know how much of it is outdated; it’s from 1993 and it’s a field that moves fairly fast - but it is quite academic. Better for people studying the subject than casual readers. I’m not sure how much I will learn because I’m not sure how much I can remember; every chapter has a glut of information.
