Chapter 11: loss. hooks discusses how death affects our lives in a way that debilitates us. We let the fear of death take over. When instead, we should use that energy we give fear and use it for love. We must not fear death as it is inevitable and we must live life to the fullest as each day is not promised.

Still on chapter 10: hooks describes the difference between a heart and soul connection. The heart connection isnt as deep as the soul connection. With heart, you can love someone but not change who you are for them. But soul, you shed the layers and show your true self and are willing to accept change if that love calls for it. You must not fear change or love in any way. Thats the soul connection. Open your heart.

Chapter 10: romance. hooks discusses understanding the difference between falling in love and to be loving. “Falling” in love gives a sense that you have no control in the love you feel for the other person and that you simply fell into it. But “to be” loving describes the choice of having/giving love willingly. Love should be described as a choice not as something that just randomly happens.

Still on chapter 9: mutuality is important in relationships. Ensuring that both parties are being nurtured and acknowledged. To not only maintain your values but to also embrace theirs too. Selfishness cannot exist in love successfully. You must be selfless. You must value their needs and work as a team.

Chapter 9:mutuality. Patriarchal views believe that women are the caregivers that are the only ones required to give love and nurture the relationship while the man gets what he needs. In reality, love and relationships are a two way street. There has to be compromise, effort, and care from both sides to keep the commitment. Studies show men are choosing to be single to not endure the potential of pain and commitment

Still Chapter 8: learn to love your solitude and don’t think of it as loneliness. Women who serve others as caregivers should always be appreciated and remember that they do it because they want to.
Chapter 9: mutual love. hooks describes a previous partner who grew up in a broken family. No father around and raised by his mom. This caused him to have Peter Pan Syndrome and he had characteristics of not being adult

Chapter 8:community.Typically we feel love for the first time in a community(within family and friendship)The importance of community allows us to feel loved and not alone.There is love everywhere(parental love,friendships, relationships,within ourselves)hooks discusses the difference between love in friendships vs relationships and how we hold them at different standards but need to find the balance of love for both

Still on chapter 7: money is the root of all evil. People with money feel they have power over those who dont. This greed for power and money leaves no space for love to be present. Greed comes in many forms, theres money, power, materialism, privilege etc. We just need to let love in and remember we are all human. We need to share resources and act more as a community. “Living simply makes loving simple.” ~hooks

Still on Chapter 7: greed is defined as self centeredness. hooks discuss people with addiction. Anyone with addiction only wants the one thing they are addicted and could care less about love. Money is an example. Some people who are rich use money to compensate for the lack of love in their lives and feel that it could fill that void. In a consumerist society, money is the root. The rich dont care for the poor. Etc.
