Although the club members worked hard, a rift eventually developed, leading them to criticize each other's personal flaws, and one member ended up leaving the group. It is hard to pinpoint a single main character, but I think Mary Anne is the one who best fits that role in this book. She appears shy and quiet—a description that once upset her when her fellow *Baby-Sitters Club* members said it—but I see her as a gentle, caring, and hardworking person. She gets along well with everyone; she has a calm demeanor, yet she truly enjoys being part of the club.
