Fowles jokes that this could be a collection of essays masquerading as a novel to fool the unsuspected reader. couldn't agree more 😅 (i love when authors break the 4th wall)

keep forgetting that this was written in 1969, and getting a whiplash from random modern terms that the authors throws at us (he's basically the narrator who randomly communicates with the reader)
