Ugh oh no she’s proposing a no-string-attached FEB arrangement. I truly hate this trope.

Okay the banter between these two is pretty cute without being at all forced, and their chemistry feels organic. A lot of this is down to the exceedingly charming, almost too-good-to-be-true vampire.

“With Elijah it’s never ‘Thanks, I owe you one,’ it’s always, ‘I’m eternally in your debt and no amount of gratitude will be enough to repay your generosity and wisdom.’

“Everyone cheers, though I only clap lightly, coming to terms with all the germs we are electing to share with one another tonight.” Like, be an adult and just opt out? Or admit you want to play and stop being passive-aggressive? Is this the heroine’s journey?

Halloween party hostess declares they’re playing Spin the Bottle because Elijah’s never played. Molly is acting as though she forced to play?? She can’t just opt out, say no?? I get that the author needs to bring these two together, and is maybe trying to show that what Molly says she wants isn’t always aligned with her actual desires, but it makes for an annoying, passive heroine.

Now Molly is annoyed that he’s not coming to her with his work problems. It’s almost as though she’ll never be content… Welp, she did warn us that she’s worried she’s just chronically discontented.

“‘I mean, I don’t mind the job, and yeah I can hold my own, but I think people tend to work the best job they can tolerate so they can afford to do things they enjoy.’ She’s acknowledges our capitalist hellscape, but worries she’s wrong not being like the Normies who are content with…job stability? People whose jobs aren’t their identity? I know I’m giving the least generous reading, but…

“I squeeze my eyes shut for a second to clear the unbidden horny ass thoughts for the tall man who is quite literally my corporate enemy. He’s done nothing but make my job harder for the last three weeks; I can’t count the number of things he’s messed up that I’ve had to fix behind him.”

Obviously I’m a weirdo but I could never fantasise about a man this incompetent.

Oh fuck, and now he’s using his vampiric power of compulsion to FORCE her to do his work for him, against her will?? Of course the only reason she doesn’t comply is that she’s immune to his powers. Does the hero have any redeeming qualities, other than being a nice-guy vampire?
This guy better have a vault of gold bars for the heroine before the story ends.
