“But I’m more powerful than the finger of a king,” said the snake.

“Where are all the people?” asked the prince again. “It’s a bit lonely in the desert.”

“It’s lonely where people are too,” said the snake.

“Grown-ups won’t believe this of course. They imagine they take up lots of room.”

“I wouldn’t matter. It’s so small where I come from.” And with perhaps a touch of sadness he added:

“Even straight ahead, he couldn’t get very far.”
