Book 2 offered some of what I like about Meditations. It talked about the importance of accepting life as it is and not allowing trivial things like judgement control you. Great stuff, but Marcus also returned to the whole (paraphrased) 'deprive yourself of books and what makes life worth living' point, which I just can't get behind. Life is short, and we should make the most of it, so why would we live without joy?

I held this book in a super high regard like 2-3 years ago. Its still great in many ways, but I can see why I let it go for awhile. Stoicism, or at least M.A.'s Stoicism, seems to emphasize responsibility over the actual living and enjoyment of life. There's a lot of good in Meditations, but I definitely remember deciding that part sounding kinda miserable.
