I agree with Shrier: SEL sucks. Love that she points that out, hate that she fails to meaningfully address alternatives. But then again, her publisher didn't give her an unlimited page count.

(cont.) I'm also curious as to the residual when it comes to previous generations' likely underdiagnosis compared with the obvious overdiagnosis of the current population. By how much did we miss then, and by how much are we overshooting now? There's just not enough math. Any argument sounds valid until you hit it with statistical analysis.

My take at present: so far she hasn't said anything that a person of average intelligence, decent upbringing, and a reading habit couldn't have arrived at themselves. Well, I say average... Given the national average reading level, maybe not. Anyway, up to this point I fear she doesn't go far enough in exposing the cause. Who or what's behind this surge in psychological services and surveillance?
