Give me strength this book is hard work and hardly the tour de force everyone maintains it is.
I’m trying hard to like it but it is a struggle - is it an advert for his other books, a story about his illnesses, a book about how a journey isn’t really a journey but a series of holidays we seem to be paying for, a history of Europe in the 1400-1600s, a story about the Nazis or actually the good people. Who knows

I’m 56 pages in which means that I’ve passed my trigger point for giving up on the book. It’s easy to read, clearly written by a good communicator but I am finding myself irritated by him.
Is this a travel book or a history book, I think, in trying to be both it fails on both counts. I don’t really care about your headache because you forgot to top up your water.
