Another chapter that is nothing but exposition speech and praising how oh-so-magnificent the lead is.

Remember how on page 6 (SIX) the author interrupted the story to tell the reader that his protag is NOT a misogynist? On the 112 pages since he has done everything in his power to prove the opposite.

That is NOT remotely the same thing, you bilge-sucking tern!

We almost had 2 entire pages that were not dragging dull and obnixious... But then the author started with the lecturing again. FFS mate, you're writing a bloody novel here, not one of your research books.

Aaaand there is the final proof that 'historical accuracy' is fancy speak for excusing racism and sexism. Close to dnfing this.

OF COURSE the shots all miss him at near point blanc... Blimey.

look, either the captain is ok with all help he can get or he isn't. Pragmatism should not be used as a synonym for reacts the way the plot requires.

If any, this book is a good example why being great at research does not equal being great at telling stories set in the field.

Good heavens this is dull... also again with the holier-than-thou attitude.
