Niecy has officially irritated me for the first time. I understand refusing to bow down, but she had Spelman waiting for her, her aunt was gone, & everything she owned was on that bus. Now she’s stranded because she had to sass that man. Annie, I’m already irritated that these are the people she chose to run away with, because Clyde is wasting their work before they’ve even gotten paid. I’m stressed!

These people are stressing me out for completely different reasons. I understand the time period and why some of them feel like they don’t have many choices, but that does not mean I have to like the choices they’re making. Everybody is searching for something, love, answers, belonging, whatever, and somehow they are still managing to get on my nerves.

Whew, both Annie and Niecy are making choices that have me talking back to the book now. Niecy’s life at Spelman is getting more complicated, and Annie’s search for her mother is starting to frustrate me. Still very invested though.

So much changed in this stretch. Annie’s life is moving forward quickly, while Niecy is settling into Spelman and finding her place there. I’m really enjoying watching their lives expand in such different directions.

Niecy made it to Spelman! 🙌🏾 I’m relieved, but she’s already worried about fitting in and what people will think. Meanwhile, Annie is missing her girl and trying to find a way to write home. I’m fully invested in both of them now.
